OCFF 2016: CINEMA 16 SHORTS BLOCK
* Filmmakers in Attendance I'M IN PITTSBURGH AND IT'S RAINING (USA, 14 min) -
Dir. Jesse McLean Through a purposeful masking of the differentiations between
performance and acting, famous Hollywood actress and her double, character,
actual person, audience expectation, and cinema magic, this video offers a look
behind the silver screen. IN THE VICINITY (USA, 9 min) - Dir. Kelly Sears This
film incorporates the spectrum of official, covert, occult, and limitless
reconnaissance protocols into an instructional guide. PLENA STELLARUM (USA, 12
min) - Dir. Matthew Wade Neon ghosts dreaming in dead landscapes. TERRESTRIAL
(USA, 11 min) - Dir. Callum Walter A mobile device captures the trajectories of
objects liberated from and bound to land, against a backdrop of uniquely human
dissonance. A SUBWAY STORY (USA, 5 min) - Dir. Eugene Kolb Two people recount
their first meeting on the New York City subway. THE GOLDEN HOUR (USA, 7 min) -
Dir. Ross Meckfessel The stink of seaweed
permeates the streets. I've heard there's growing dissatisfaction among the
youth. Do you feel content? How often do you dream? Are you better off alone?
WOLKENSCHATTEN (Germany, 17 min) - Dir. Juan David, Gonzales Monroy, Anja
Dornieden In 1984, for three weeks in May, what appeared to be a giant cloud
shrouded the small town of Hüllen-Hüllen in darkness. Before the end of the
month the cloud had dispersed and life seemed to return to normal. One month
later, however, the town was hastily abandoned and its residents were nowhere
to be found. MAD LADDERS (USA, 10 min) - Michael Robinson A modern prophet's
visions of mythical destruction and transformation are recounted across a
turbulent geometric ceremony of rising curtains, swirling set pieces, and
unveiled idols from music television's past. Together, these parallel cults of
revelation unlock a pathway to the far side of the sun.

NYC PREMIERE OF FINAL CUT! LED ZEPPELIN PLAYED HERE (2014, 81 min, video) 1969.
Man lands on the moon. Half a million strong at Woodstock. Sesame Street makes
its debut…and Led Zeppelin perform in the gym of a youth center in front of 50
confused teenagers in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Or did they?
Krulik offers his take on an enduring Maryland legend, a concert alleged to
have taken place on January 20, 1969, during the first Presidential
Inauguration of Richard Nixon. LED ZEPPELIN PLAYED HERE features interviews
with rock writers, musicians, and fans, and several who claim they were
witnessing history that night.

RE-VISIONS: JEFF'S PEOPLE
PROGRAM 3: JEFF’S PEOPLE: Since the 1980s, Krulik has steadfastly made dozens
of captivatingly quirky video pieces documenting compellingly offbeat
characters. In all these videos, Krulik displays a raggedly energetic style
marked by a tendency simply to let the camera roll as his subjects perform for
it, a penchant for deliberately cheesy FX (wipes abound), and a genuine
affection for the eccentric personalities he chronicles. Here we present a
selection of our all-time favorite portraits of characters we are lovingly
calling “Jeff’s People.” Program includes: KING OF PORN (1996, 7 min, video)
CELEBRITY UNDERWEAR (1998/2013, 7.5 min, video) I CREATED LANCELOT LINK (1999,
15.5 min, video) PANCAKE (2000, 4.5 min, video) OBSESSED WITH JEWS (2000, 8
min, video) KING OF PORN 2: THE RETIREMENT (2000, ? min, digital) THE
PSYCHEDELIC SECRETARY (2007, 4.5 min, video) And others, including previously
unseen footage from Krulik’s portrait of DC photographer and ‘Cowboy Poet,’
Chris
Earnshaw. Total running time: ca. 80 min.

STORM DE HIRSCH: "THIRD EYE BUTTERFLY AND OTHER FILMS"
w/ Bradley Eros. Microscope presents a rare screening of 3 films by seminal
artist Storm De Hirsch, filmmaker, poet, painter, and a co-founder of The
Film-maker’s Cooperative in New York in 1961. The program opens with De
Hirsch’s first film, “Silently, Bearing Totem of a Bird”, a rare silent Super
8mm work by the artist and to be shown in its original format. De Hirsch’s 35
minute 16mm film “The Tattooed Man” (1969), the longest piece of the screening,
was described by Stan VanDerBeek as “a major work in terms of style, structure,
graphic invention, image manipulation and symbolic ritual”. “Third Eye
Butterfly” is a double 16mm projection piece in which the two screens – at
times divided within into additional “mini-screens” causing textured
kaleidoscopic effects – blur to create a third wider frame, encouraging the
viewers to extend their vision beyond ordinary sight. Bradley Eros will project
this film according to guidelines left by the artist. Two of many recently
rediscovered paintings by De Hirsch appear in the gallery’s current group
exhibit “Off Screen." $8 admission, $6 students w/ ID. Tel.: 347 925 1433,
Jefferson St. L (exit Starr St.).

ERC PRESENTS FESTIVAL OF (IN)APPROPRIATION
$10 General Admission. Works by Soda_Jerk, Orazio Leogrande, Clint Enns, Rachel
Stuckey, Kami Chisholm, Peter Freund, Battersby and Duke, Ip Yuk Yiu, Michael
Lyons & Palle Dahlstedt, Abraham Ravett. Albert Alcoz, and Ken Paul Rosenthal.
Introduced by Rachel Stuckey. Whether you call it collage, compilation, found
footage, détournement, or recycled cinema, the incorporation of already
existing media into new artworks is a practice that generates novel
juxtapositions and new meanings and ideas, often in ways entirely unrelated to
the intentions of the original makers. Such new works are, in other words,
"inappropriate." This act of (in)appropriation may even produce revelations
about the relationship between past and present, here and there, intention and
subversion, artist and critic, not to mention the "producer" and "consumer" of
visual culture itself. Founded in 2009, the Festival of (In)appropriation is a
yearly showcase of contemporary, short (20 minutes or less),
audiovisual works that appropriate existing film, video, or other media and
repurpose it in "inappropriate" and inventive ways. The show is curated by
Jaimie Baron, Lauren Berliner, and Greg Cohen.

6/22
Austin, Texas 78702: grayDUCK Gallery
7 PM - 8:30 PM, 2213 E Cesar Chavez St
SCREENING OF EVAN MANN'S SHORT FILMS
In conjunction with the Visitation show, grayDUCK will be presenting a
screening of Evan Mann's short films on Wednesday, June 22, doors open at 7pm,
films start at 7:30. Evan Mann invents imagery suggestive of cosmic forms,
cellular structures, biological architecture, sea life and other unusual
phenomena. His depictions often traverse through multiple mediums: Drawing,
sculpture, video, installation; one process feeds and grows into another:
dividing, repurposing, rearranging, recontextualizing. The content of the work
is often developed through its creation, functioning as a catalyst for Mann to
research and engage with art, science, philosophy, and religion. His use of
monochrome is tied to minimalism and serves to reference clouds, light, eggs
(birth), bones (death), and snow while bringing a formal unity to potentially
chaotic compositions.

I SEE FESTIVAL PROGRAM 1
The more that I see the less that I know for sure.” –John Lennon The I SEE
International Video Art Festival was founded in 2013 by the artists Constantin
Hartenstein and Clemens Wilhelm. In 2015, the second edition of the I SEE
International Video Art Festival once again revealed the latest developments in
contemporary video art. The festival began in Berlin (Germany), traveled to
Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing, and Shenzhen (China) to connect these five
vibrant video art scenes, and will now arrive in New York City. The festival
sets out to present groundbreaking video art works by emerging and well-known
international artists who examine the impact of technological and aesthetic
inventions. Three screening programs – THE END OF THE IMAGE AS WE KNOW IT, POST
EVERYTHING, and THE ANIMAL WITHIN – present unique artistic approaches to
animalistic instincts, the omnipresent influence of technology on society, and
concepts of post-futures. PROGRAM 1: THE END OF THE IMAGE AS WE KNOW
IT This program examines constructed digital entities and reevaluates social
norms. It bends the boundaries of original content and newly created context in
a consumer-driven reality. In treating the frame as a space to break apart
filmic forms and narratives, the works in the program look at ways to juxtapose
diverse narratives and stylistic elements. How are the images of the past
reassembled in the present? Would you like to become an alpha-male overnight?
Is the image of an old white male ruling class still adequate? How does the
experience of war change the image of home? What if there was a superhero with
the special powers of a uterus? How can your family appear more happy in
photos? Li Ran FROM TRUCK DRIVER TO THE POLITICAL COMMISSAR OF THE MOUNTED

I SEE FESTIVAL PROGRAM 2
PROGRAM 2: THE ANIMAL WITHIN THE ANIMAL WITHIN combines videos that deal with a
new kind of wild behavior and creative expression – either within ourselves or
as a reaction to a vanishing fauna. Inspired by 17th century painting, hunting
videos on YouTube, or Hitchcockian scenarios, this program presents works that
elaborate upon spiritualism, the emotional tension between mankind and the
wilderness, and the capacity for death to act as a reminder of the animalistic
nature of our being. What do we feel after we shoot an animal? Why do birds
look at us with disinterest? What happens to the soul in the forest? What is
the difference between humans and dogs? Neozoon BUCK FEVER (2012, 6 min,

I SEE FESTIVAL PROGRAM 3
PROGRAM 3: POST EVERYTHING The POST EVERYTHING program points out the
relationship between innovative aesthetics that transform cultural output and
the past as a resource for the construction of the present and the future. It
reveals a world that fetishizes the new as a surplus value. A small step
forward can shake up all definitions. Can you turn a desert into a utopian
city? How do we relate to world-changing media events? Are we happy with
simulacra instead of the real things? And how can one be an artist in a
hyperreal world? Niklas Goldbach LAND OF THE SUN (2015, 12 min, digital) Franz
Reimer JUSTICE HAS BEEN DONE (2014, 8 min, digital) Clemens Wilhelm SIMULACRA
(2015, 33 min, digital) Erkka Nissinen MATERIAL CONDITIONS OF INNER SPACES
(2014, 15 min, digital) Total running time: ca. 70 min.
