With a lot of media coverage today for the Oskar Fischinger Google Doodle on Fischinger's birthday, CVM salutes the very few persons in the press who took the time to find and write about Oskar Fischinger's own films! Very few places provided sources to find the work; many printed factual errors, most barely mentioned or ignored his films. The TIME magazine piece cited is one of the rather lame ones.
We salute a very short list - Washington Post, Telegraph UK, Independent UK and Huffington Post (Germany edition). https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2017/06/22/oskar-fischinger-google-doodle-lets-you-salute-the-animation-pioneer-the-nazis-couldnt-stop/?utm_term=.17af43630c25 http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art/oskar-fischinger-google-doodle-today-best-animations-who-is-he-a7802926.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/0/oskar-fischinger-watch-amazing-musical-animations-created-decades/ (though the latter two did embed the faded An Optical Poem from youtube which is missing all of its golds and yellows, that's not what this film looks like). *SOURCES for Fischinger's work:* Authorized Fischinger videos online - CVM's vimeo channel has both free excerpts and VOD full films: https://vimeo.com/album/3111432/sort:plays/format:thumbnail The Fischinger films (and rights), papers, many animation drawings and some paintings are owned by Center for Visual Music, Los Angeles. Online resources include bibliography, film notes, list of exhibitions and much more: www.centerforvisualmusic.org/Fischinger Paintings for sale are handled by Peyton Wright Fine Arts, Santa Fe. The Fischinger Trust is now pretty much only involved with paintings. Thanks to Barbara Fischinger, The Fischinger Trust gifted the films, rights, Fischinger's papers, and many animation drawings to Center for Visual Music. Our archive also includes the papers of Elfriede Fischinger and William Moritz, Fischinger's biographer. A collection of early German business-related papers is at the Deutsches Filmmuseum, Frankfurt, plus a small collection of animation drawings and a few paintings. ************* Info on forthcoming Fischinger DVD: http://centerforvisualmusic.org/Fischinger/newdvd.htm A few sponsors have stepped up today, including a major name, thus names of supporters and sponsors will be updated on that page shortly. The first Fischinger DVD, Ten Films, is still also available from CVM. www.centerforvisualmusic.org Please direct Fischinger inquiries to: cvmaccess (at) gmail dot com The irony of all of the Google Doodle "make your own piece" attention - Fischinger's daughter Barbara often remarked that her father HATED homages and believed people should be doing their own work! best regards, Cindy Keefer Curator/Archivist Center for Visual Music www.centerforvisualmusic.org CVM email = cvmaccess (at) gmail.com > > -----Forwarded Message----- > >From: Adam Hyman <[email protected]> > >Sent: Jun 22, 2017 3:17 PM > >To: "Experimental Film Discussion List <[email protected]>" > > >Subject: [Frameworks] Google on June 22 > > > >In today¹s unbelievable note, the Google logo today > >https://www.google.com/ > >(aka the Google Doodle) > >Leads to a quote from Oskar Fischinger and a small thing to make one¹s own > >visual music piece > > > <http://www.lafilmforum.org> > > > > > > > > > > > > >
