Am confused. I just compiled this from source, and booted it, and I
still see the (supposedly) non-free Google stuff.

However I can't see it in the build image.

Nor is there any network access when I boot it on my eeepc.

So I don't know where this stuff is coming from.

I have looked through all the apk's in the compiled image, and nothing
looks remotely like these google tools.
