Placing the device in the idle state before suspending sounds like a good idea. The PCH datasheet does have a note saying this should be done before any resets so I think you are right. Maybe I missed something trivial while reading the datasheets, but why in `ig4iic_attach` is this only done for skylake and not also done for haswell? I went ahead and added this to a new patch, it would be amazing if someone could try it out and let me know if it makes any difference.
