That's true, but some panics are much easier to debug with INVARIANTS turned
on.

In any case, to look at the cores I need the matching contents of /boot/kernel
and /usr/lib/debug/boot/kernel, assuming that you are indeed running a
stable/13 kernel.  Also the core.txt.* files are not populated, try installing
the gdb package.
