Bug ID: 287719

Version: CURRENT
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Screenshot: the partitioning dialogue with
FreeBSD-15.0-CURRENT-amd64-20250621-eb5884c564ae-278132-disc1.iso
base eb5884c564ae (2025-06-20) recommends at least 256 MiB, if the system has
insufficient memory.
256 MB may be insufficient for a minimal set of 284 base packages, please see
<https://www.reddit.com/r/freebsd/comments/1lcm1ze/comment/mz4y0fr/>.
base 595373dd646b (2020-01-27) added a contextual footer to the partitioning
dialogue:
> To use ZFS with less than 8GB RAM, see
> https://wiki.freebsd.org/ZFSTuningGuide
– that page was marked as stale in 2022.
doc e1ecde315c98 (2023-01-12) removed a recommendation with regard to general
purpose desktop systems:
> 2-4 GB RAM
Since then, as far as I can tell, neither the Project site nor the
documentation portal describes hardware requirements or system requirements.
Focusing on the installer
=========================
A) maybe review the 256 MiB recommendation before 15.0-RELEASE
B) consider adding a complementary warning, targeting laptop/desktop
use cases, when the installer runs on a system with less than …
maybe 6 GB memory.
