If you:
- take 16-current as of today
- inside bhyve on AMD64
- compile the GENERIC kernel without changes (which includes OPTION gdb)
- reboot into that kernel
- do sysctl to switch to GDB
you get
sysctl: debug.kdb.current=gdb: Invalid argument
Nothing in dmesg.
Here is my byhyve start command:

The host is also 16-current, a few days old.
