What’s a good way then to bring the system up to date? Notably,
https://www.freebsd.org/security/advisories/FreeBSD-SA-25:11.ipfw.asc advises
using freebsd-update , but after doing that the system remains vulnerable:

$ pkg audit $(freebsd-version -k | sed
's,^,FreeBSD-kernel-,;s,-RELEASE-p,_,;s,-RELEASE$,,')

FreeBSD-kernel-14.3_5 is vulnerable:
  FreeBSD -- ipfw denial of service
