The controller seems to stick on the bus. The Linux team has reported such problems with there own driver and couldn't do anything (reset of controller, SMBus abort...). The problem seem to have disappeared with an additional device plugged on the bus. I'll dig into your problem, but yet, I have no problem with the ASUS.
