Current suggestions are that it will go to 3.6 or 3.7 before being
retired.  This will presumably depend on the rate at which 4.x
stabilizes and people move to it, as well as the number of problems
found with 3.x.

Yes.  At least 2, probably 3.

And this thread really belongs in -stable, not -current.
