Have you looked into using a MTX_SPIN lock where Linux actually employs a DRM_SPINTYPE one? That should allow to use a filter instead of an ithread handler, solving a great number of problems with pre-loading of DRM drivers and allow them to be statically compiled into the kernel as - unlike ihtreads - filters work right from the moment they are set up during attach.
