The "nodevice" is for your custom kernel configuration, but as far as I can see an(4) is still built as a module, see sys/modules/Makefile: ... .if ${MACHINE_CPUARCH} == "i386" || ${MACHINE_CPUARCH} == "amd64" _agp= agp _an= an -Dimitry
