I think You are using a player that does not have needed codec support - I just
downloaded that file and played it on my FreeBSD system. Players like
mpv/vlc/mplayer does play the needed sound. What player You used?
I tried both mplayer and vlc without success (following the output
provided by mplayer)
I don't usually have problems with sound, and I'm able to play other
video & audio files
on my FreeBSD system, but for some reasons, not for this one.

The recording is valuable because it
demonstrates that the failure exists.
It gives developers something concrete
to reproduce. The next step is to gather
enough information to identify the
responsible component.
If I can help try to narrow it - if I use PluseAudio for deadbeef player - and
start something that also wants to play audio on PluseAudio - then this *booze*
is not there.

Something like OSS <-> PulseAudio conflict ... just guessing.
The goal is not a system that never fails.
That is unrealistic. The goal is a system
where failures leave enough evidence that
they can be understood and fixed.
Its just these things worked like a charm ... and now they are broken and no
one knows why they are broken ... or how to fix them ... or debug them.

Maybe, but the same 'chip' worked earlier on FreeBSD and worked fine.
