what errors did you get? if you are running the demos as user, and have linux_base-7 installed, try running the demos as root, or switch to linux_base-6 user + linux_base-7 + linux-jdk == core dump (at least for me) this patch works for me: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=kern/40611
