Its been my experience that most OSes don't do any better with
hyperthreading on..  Now I haven't tried with FreeBSD but at my
company we disable hyperthreading in the BIOS by default.

Supposedly the brand spanking new Intel chip will have better
hyperthreading but the real results remain to be seen.
