Most probably, you forgot to upgrade your /etc/rc.d/ldconfig.
Check with ``ldconfig -r'', the ``search directories: '' should
start with ``/lib:/usr/lib''.

Also, the latest bsd.lib.mk,v 1.154 takes care of removing
stale /usr/lib/libfoo.so.X libraries.
