I don't think that'll be a general thing. I did that in LinuxKPI so
far as possible given I could. I plan to to the same for 11ax to make
it opt-in; one of the reasons there is that Realtek LinuxKPI drivers
need to catch up (and mediatek and QCA). So having the options allowed
us to move on iwlwifi but not the others yet and we can enable them bit
by bit driver by driver.
What we are thinking is rewriting net80211 internals touching all
drivers, as well as changing IOCTLs. Key management, locking, channel
representation ... If it doesn't work, it's broken.
