I do not care tests, I do care real usability.
As I pointed many times: tests are not representative.

I had try to do same, but with no luck. I do not want waste additional time
anymore to "make it as series of small patches to existing kqueue backend".

Let users to chose what is better.

Without async open() in my patch - probably native inotify@FBSD15 will work
worse in some use cases.
