Greetings. The description in "5.7.3. Xfce" is incomplete, at least for
installing with "pkg". You also need "pkg install xinit" and "pkg
install Xorg", at least for FreeBSD 11.

The instructions for installing Xfce follow the instructions for
installing and configuring a basic Xorg setup. If you're reading the
chapter in order, there shouldn't be any problems.

I now see that, but I wasn't reading in order. I searched for "freebsd xfce" and got directly to x11-wm.html, which is section 5.6. Nothing on that page points back to 5.3 (or, as I can see now, the good stuff on 5.4).

I don't know if this is an actionable bug. That is, I bet many other handbook pages that are section X.6 rely on you having started reading at X.1. If you agree, feel free to close this report. If not, a simple pointer at the top of the page that says "You must have Xorg already set up and should probably read this whole chapter starting at 5.1" would be useful.

Thanks for the pointer to the earlier material!
