I was setting up LDAP Client on a FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p1 fresh installation.
I followed the setup instructions from
https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/ldap-auth/article.html doc r47080
Section 3.2 mentions that "The net/nss_ldap port uses the same configuration
file as security/pam_ldap, and should not need any extra parameters once it is
installed."
However, in my setup, I found out that I need to copy /usr/local/etc/ldap.conf
to /usr/local/etc/nss_ldap.conf
