reverse name resolution is not working outside of your own name servers... ex. ######################################################### % nslookup Default Server: localhost.multinet-media.com Address: 127.0.0.1 > server ns2.uncanny.net Default Server: ns2.uncanny.net Address: 140.174.20.7 > 140.174.20.7 Server: ns2.uncanny.net Address: 140.174.20.7 Name: ns2.uncanny.net Address: 140.174.20.7 > server ns1.root.com Default Server: ns1.root.com Address: 209.102.106.178 > 140.174.20.7 Server: ns1.root.com Address: 209.102.106.178 *** ns1.root.com can't find 140.174.20.7: Server failed ######################################################### whoever is responsible for the IP block(s, classes) you are using would need to add PTR records; as they are the authority ( there is a record for ns1 ). Having reverse lookup on your own nameservers is a good thing to have, but that's not where the rest of the world is going to query from, unless they're using your DNS. or supposedly an entry like... 140.174.20.254 IN NS ns2.uncanny.net. in the 20.174.140.in-addr records ( on the providers nameserver ) will work. This would (supposedly) cause remote queries to be redirected to your namesever. I've never tried it, though.
