Hmm, you used to be able to disable the pnp device (looks like where
it may be hanging up).

Does anyone know a safe way to disable pnp probes?

can you try this patch?  It's a complete blind guess but it's be
interesting to see if it works, just do this:

cd /usr/src/sys/isa ; patch < thisfile

then recompile and see what happens
