The bootloader uses the BIOS.

If you mean that the disks are hot-pluggable, then it could be the SCSI
device that allows to control the hot-plug bay that makes problem during
the scan of the SCSI BUS. If there is some way to desactivate this 'for
now hypothetical device' or to update its firmware, you should try either.

No problem here, if it works with Adaptec. Nobody wants to waste one's
time. I just wanted to say that this also may apply in the reverse
direction.
