Yes. It likely would.
What version of FreeBSD are you using?
Also, you'll find two benefits from using ppbus. First, it makes your
life easier when dealing with all those nibbles and such that yuo have
to send to the device. Second, it increases the chances that your
driver will be included in FreeBSD in the future.
