Experienced programmers can be leaders very effectively if they get feedback regularly from users. Its part of software development to communicate with users. Provided the leadership listens to users requirements, and acts in that interest there is no problem.

In reality, there are several types of users of FreeBSD including:

Programmers
System Administrators
College Students
(i fit in the first 3 groups)
Hobbyists
and young people who heard its like linux (lol)
