Try cvsupp'ing /usr/src/sys/dev/usb/* to 5.5-RELEASE, and then replace those if_*.c files that don't compile with their old (5.4-R) versions. If you want, I can roll you a tarball of dev/usb/ tree that worked for me (~1Mb).
