The em(4) driver in -CURRENT tends to be *very* up-to-date. At the moment it is up to version 6.5.3 (which is actually newer than the 6.4.1 driver that you can download from Intel for FreeBSD 6.x) The driver in 6-STABLE lags a bit behind (as one would expect). It is currently at version 6.2.9 (which is also fairly new.)
