When you go to 4gb of memory in this type of Server Board the bios will

Oh, I don't need *more* than 4gb. I have read somewhere on this list (around september) that it might be possible to configure BIOS to make more memory visible, although a couple of 100 megs will be lost, which is OK. We'll see how it goes, I'll have a similar machine delivered soon, that I can make some tests on.

If I need more memory, I can go amd64 on the machine (it is an EMT64), but that might give me some troubles with Java, since the 1.5 JVM is only alpha at this time. Or PAE, perhaps, but that removes many device drivers...

Thanks,
Palle

Hi!

Two different customers have bought a HP 380 server each, both with 4 GB
RAM, but FreeBSD can only see three of them. BIOS counts to 4 GB. I've
tried PAE, but it doesn't help. Any tips how I can make use of the last
1GB?

Both are SMP, dual Xeon CPU's.
