This approach is fraught with gotchas and will bite you somewhere uncomfortable. When I last tried this (a year ago on 9.x), it couldn't get to multi-user (though I didn't investigate in depth and just moved to amd64 userland). Some of the known issues were dhclient, netstat and kdump. -- Peter Jeremy
