Are you sure that the xorg metaport is installed?
Have you tried to add FontPath entries for the subfolders
in /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/ ?
AFAIK the font "fixed" is defined in font.alias in the misc subfolder.
Try to add a FontPath entry for /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/misc/
