As a work-around I launch xmms with this command:
/usr/bin/env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 /usr/local/bin/xmms
Long-standing problem. I don't have a reference handy but Googling for
xmms and XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS should dig up something relevant.
