That's been my main point of worry all along (more personally than as portmgr), and why I think the deprecation campaigns do more good than harm. Obviously some folks do not agree :-/ We'll have to agree to disagree on that point. I'll also note that not every port that gets deprecated actually gets removed. In English we have this saying "the carrot and the stick". I'd certainly rather use the carrot than the stick, but sometimes the stick (setting DEPRECATED) is effective.
