Can QymCAD work with one of those versions ? If not, why not ?

Yes I know about opencascade 8.0 and 7.4 presence in ports. Unfortunately, QymCAD does not work with them. 7.4 lacks some important features, while 8.0 has a significant API change. I already asked QyCAM developer about possibility to move to 8.0, he says that is kind of impossible in near future, takes too much work. I would not ask here if that was such easy. :-)

I consider integrating opencascade 7.9.3 into QymCAD source tree, but this does not look like a good solution.

Keep in mind that using the ports system for controlled, reliable deployment and committing a port are two different things. I have always deployed a lot of software directly from my WIP collection (https://github.com/outpaddling/freebsd-ports-wip), either as a long-term solution for software that might never be worth committing, or as a stop-gap while waiting for upstream to catch up. Overlays makes this approach pretty convenient, for both the developer and users who want to use/test the ports.
