A network interface doesn't exist solely for the purpose of being able to run ping on it. Other tools might want to look up the host name or address of 127.0.0.1 and connect to it. For instance, at home that I have started a caching named process, programs connect to udp or tcp port 53 (the dns server port) all the time. > What is about 112 hits ?
