I installed in safemode and then build custom kernel. I took the PAE as example removed the PAE option, added acpi and SMP , compiled and installed. This works great. Booting GENERIC will fail on my supermicro too. Hang at the ICH5 ata controller with timeouts. chers, -Dennis
