One cannot expect ISPs to know about every operating system available. It's hard enough just to support Windows, the most popular desktop OS around. Some companies might have the resources to support Macs, but not many. Hardly anyone can afford to support anything else. On the other hand, if ISPs didn't try so hard to hide the interfaces with their service and didn't try to "personalize" the connections so much, anyone would be able to connect to any ISP with any OS.
