I suppose they apply, but are they correct? For all versions of MySQL I'd recommend using the ports collection, as with every other FreeBSD port. As of tomorrow, I'll be working for MySQL, so I will pay special attention to MySQL problems on FreeBSD. One of the things I'll be looking at is bringing FreeBSD and MySQL recommendations into line with each other.
