I would try using a NIC that does not use the RTL8139 chip. They have a
terrible reputation ..having said that I have no problems with them but
I know they were once described as one of the worst pieces of hardware
design to ever hit the planet (or words to that effect). I download far
more than I upload, so maybe I would never notice anyway.
