I am looking for a way to do string substitution
for CVS tags in the same fashion as the 

$Id$

method for the RCS version info etc...

or the SCCS 

@(#)

tagging syntax.

Is there something dumb I have overlooked or does it take 
manual intervention to include the 'official' release tag
into programs that can be viewed with ident or what.
