I was able to install 5.3-RELEASE using this as the specified URL: ftp://ftp-archive.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD-Archive/old-releases/i386/5.3-RELEASE What bothers me is this verbiage from sysinstall: "Only the Primary sites are guaranteed to carry the full range of possible distributions."
