Hi, I have a FreeBSD 4.11 box (monowall, actually) that has apparently had a bit of a crisis with its USB controller hardware. This is completely irrelevant to me as it is a purpose-built box with no need to use USB now or in the future. The only problem is that when the box boots, it hangs for about 5 to 10 minutes trying to talk to the USB device.
Here is an excerpt from dmesg (pardon the wrapping): uhci0: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xd400-0xd41f irq 11 at device 16.0 on pci0 usb0: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci0 usb0: USB revision 1.0 uhub0: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub0: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered uhci1: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xd800-0xd81f irq 11 at device 16.1 on pci0 usb1: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci1 usb1: USB revision 1.0 uhub1: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub1: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered uhci2: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> port 0xdc00-0xdc1f irq 9 at device 16.2 on pci0 usb2: <VIA 83C572 USB controller> on uhci2 usb2: USB revision 1.0 uhub2: VIA UHCI root hub, class 9/0, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1 uhub2: 2 ports with 2 removable, self powered uhub2: device problem, disabling port 2 Immediately before the last line of output above is where it hangs. I found some oblique references to device.hints on google but I couldn't find anything that describes exactly what needs to go in that file.
