to be clear.

kernel task (disk I/O, network etc.) is always on first processor, everything else on any CPU.

so as long as disk I/O network and other kernel tasks are able to fit on one processor that's OK.

for machines doing mostly pure computing 8-16 CPU may work fine, for machines doing mostly fileserving and routing even 2 CPUs may be not well utilized
