grep ifconfig /etc/rc.conf

grep lo0 /etc/defaults/rc.conf
ifconfig_lo0="inet" # default loopback device configuration.

uname -a
FreeBSD philip.hq.rws 7.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #0: Thu Jul 26

Thanks for you reply (which I take as, "yes"):

uname -a
FreeBSD zeus.safeport.com 6.2-STABLE FreeBSD 6.2-STABLE #1: Sun May 13 02:19:00 EDT 2007 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/ZEUS i386

and from rc.conf

ifconfig_em0="DHCP "
ifconfig_ipw0="wepmode on deftxkey 1 wepkey 0xdb......... DHCP"

works just fine
