Right. I tried that a while back and forgot I had. This is what I get:

You may wish to ``make deinstall'' and install this port again
by ``make reinstall'' to upgrade it properly.
If you really wish to overwrite the old port of graphics/py-imaging
without deleting it first, set the variable "FORCE_PKG_REGISTER"
in your environment or the "make install" command line.

Stop in /usr/ports/graphics/py-imaging.

Ideas?
TIA,

/usr/ports/graphics/py-imaging

Maybe a long shot, but I would try something in the line of:

pkg_delete -f "py23-imaging-1.1.5*"

or try

pkg_info | grep py23-imaging

to get the exact name and use it in pkg_delete

the try installing the new port.

Also make sure you have not missed any steps mentioned in /usr/ports/UPDATING I've never had python23, but there are specific steps to follow upgrading e.g 2.4 to 2.5
Make sure you have not omitted any of the relevant steps for your version.
