it is detected, but you may need to give options to moused (if you run it) to know to get usb not ps2 mouse, or in xorg.conf

Problem 2:
I cannot get X started.  I get the following errors:

Make sure you install X by using the meta-port x11/xorg. You'll miss
stuff out if you install by hand.
