Now it happens that if I launch either gimp or abiword from the kde konsole the two applications "speak" Italian while if I launch them from the icons (that I created) on the desktop they "switch" to English. Vittorio _______________________________________________

It could be possible you are launching said applications witch switches at the command line to make them run in Italian? If so, you can edit the icon to use the same switches as you are using at the command line.
