A quick fix would be to scp /usr/share/misc/termcap from your home machine to ~/.termcap on the remote host. Then ssh into remote host and: $ echo "TERMCAP=$HOME/.termcap" >> ~/.ssh/environment Log out and ssh in again. Might work.
