in /etc/ttys I think, right? By default (in my /etc/ttys) on ttyv8 there
is an xdm-Daemon configured I think:

ttyv6   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25  on  secure
ttyv7   "/usr/libexec/getty Pc"         cons25  on  secure
#ttyv8  "/usr/local/bin/xdm -nodaemon"  xterm   off secure
ttyv8   "/usr/local/bin/xdm -nodaemon"  xterm   on  secure

(I changed it to "on" because I want to start xdm at boot).

Is there a getty (or something else) configured in your /etc/ttys?
