Of course it isn't illegal. You can run any system you like on your own hardware.

unless you actually READ the licensing on OSX that says It can only be installed on apple brand hardware

It doesn't really matter much what they say in their eula. If i bought a copy then i can do/install whatever I want since there isn't any agreement between apple and me. For the agreement to be binding I must sign a contract with apple.
