I think the only place this is documented is in the source.

However, the states seem pretty obvious:

nanslp = sleeping in nanosleep
select = waiting in select
kqread = waiting on a kqueue read event
piperd = waiting on a pipe read
accept = waiting on accept
ttyin = waiting for input from a TTY

etc.
